Simple. Calm. Pure. Colorful. Bold. These adjectives describe Michael
Leeʼs paintings. Traditional forms of landscape are present, yet they are transformed into their most simple and purist representations, mirroring how we experience the world in our own human development. However, beyond the translation of landscape to paint lies an inner metaphor, a cerebral calming like a state of mind that reflects itʼs surroundings just as it completes its own existence. Looking at Michaelʼs paintings brings about a feeling of arrival, yet continues to keep us on the look out, searching for something. These states of relaxation and forward movement are essential in our daily existence. One feels at peace in the presence of his paintings,
yet strives for more just as his mountains and rivers and skies push our thoughts forward to new frontiers.

I met Michael Lee a year and a half ago. He is a quiet man. His paintings reflect his demeanor. There is no doubt that he will continue to grow as a painter and a person---as he continues to paint one cannot help but feel the tandem of his personal growth.

I am pleased to offer Michael his first exhibition in the Untied States. His artistic vision will be gazing at us, and we will be looking back with delight.
